Habbersett Scrapple
I found Habbersett Scrapple in the frozen breakfast foods aisle in Publix. According to Habbersett's website, Scrapple is “...probably the first All American pork food”, first created over 200 years ago in Pennsylvania. Its made largely of pork offal, corn meal and wheat flour.
The ingredients.
After it thaws and before it is cooked it really has no odor at all, and it pretty much looks like a firm little loaf of bread. If you pat it it's sorta jiggly.
The piece on the left has been breaded in flour mixed w/ salt and pepper, and the piece on the right was just cooked plain. (The stuff in the little dishes are syrup and ketchup – both of which I read were appropriate to put on Scrapple). It is actually quite tasty! The seasoning tasted pretty similar to sausage, but at the same time it reminded me of bacon. The breaded one had a more 'sausage patty'-like texture, and the non-breaded one was thinner and crisper and had more of a 'crust'.
All in all it's no different than having sausage or bacon with your breakfast!
